Reading your analytics dashboard

What the numbers actually mean, in plain English.

The three numbers that matter most

  • Visits — how many times someone loaded your site. This is your best “is anyone finding me” number.
  • Top pages — which pages people actually looked at. If your menu page gets way more traffic than your About page, that tells you what people care about.
  • Where visitors came from — search engines, a link you posted, or typing your address directly. Useful for knowing if your marketing efforts are actually driving people to the site.

What not to worry about

Bounce rate, session duration, and most of the other metrics dashboards show are more useful for large marketing teams than for a single-location business. Don’t feel like you need to understand every number — the three above are the ones worth checking.

How often to check it

Once a month is plenty for most businesses. A weekly glance is only worth it if you’re actively running a promotion or just launched and want to see if it’s landing.

If a number looks wrong or drops suddenly

Email us. A sudden drop is sometimes a real problem (like a broken link) and sometimes just normal fluctuation — we can tell you which.
